< Go Back Perfect Storm for Glass Industry Posted: Jul 6, 2021 A shortage of containers to move goods around the world, combined with Brexit and COVID have hit us in the glass industry very hard this year meaning delays and price increases. With the cost of moving shipping containers rising from roughly £1800 to an incredible £8000 glass manufacturers have been forced to increase their prices and lead times, in just over a year glass prices have rocketed by up to 25%. Uncertain trading conditions following Brexit and the impacts of coping with the COVID-19 Pandemic has meant customers wishing to improve their homes with stylish and hygienic glass splash-backs are now having to wait on average twice as long to have their splashbacks fitted but here at Kimberlite Glass we have made supreme efforts to keep any cost increases to a minimum by making sure we are working as efficiently as possible. Similarly customers wishing to replace double glazed units which have failed and misted up are waiting longer but our long established relationships with our suppliers have meant only minimal increases in the cost. One type of glass which has been easier to keep up with demand for is toughened safety glass typically used for balconies, staircases and shower enclosures and doors, with a design and fit service for your staircase glass or beautiful new shower glass we are able to keep delays manageable.
